is that sunshine I see??

PRAISE THE LORD!!!!!! The sun came back out today—-there was some quite fierce wind that accompanied it but after being cooped up in the house for almost a week we will take whatever we can get. We had an awesome time hanging outside in the pool and on the waterslide. Elias’ friend Jack and his mom came and they had so much fun. Elias is still working on playing well with others…..he really likes to be the boss…..     Hopefully that will pass with time and more experiences with other children. We are working on it. It was still a great morning though!
On a less exciting note, Elias has decided that naps are no longer for him 🙁 It is a very sad day except that bedtime has been restored to 7:30 rather than 10 PM. I knew naps were on their way out because he’s been fighting me more and more when putting him down for his nap. That in addition to staying up until 10 PM some nights without being cranky led me to believe that he wasn’t going to need naps much longer. I am going to try to enforce an hour long quiet time each afternoon after lunch but I’m not optimistic about the whole situation to be honest.

****Ok, so as I was typing that last sentence I realized I should go check on him because he was mighty quiet, which is typically not a good sign. Low and behold….he couldn’t hang any longer.  Fingers crossed he doesn’t sleep any longer than 30 minutes because this could totally ruin his 7:30 bedtime. EEEEK.

I couldn’t resist to capture him sleeping so peacefully…..

Yesterday since we were on day three of being stuck inside the house we decided to go eat lunch with Brent. Elias had so much fun and got a milkshake. He had to take along his “baby puppy.” He even insisted on taking the bottle for the baby….. I’m resisting the urge to get baby fever. I just keep reminding myself about all the reasons we have decided to wait until we add to our family. But seeing him kiss and feed his “baby puppy” sure was sweet. I have an inkling that an actual baby invading his space wouldn’t be welcomed as much as “baby puppy.”

Elias is excited for  a fun weekend and a birthday party on Sunday. Let’s hope for MORE SUNSHINE.

Sleeping in never felt so good

We are LOVING summer break!!!! I had an awesome school year-BUT–there’s a reason school isn’t year round. Teachers and students alike would go bonkers…haha. We are all ready for a much needed time to decompress, rest, and relax. Around these parts we have been mostly doing just that and it’s been a blast.

For the first few days of our summer break we just hung out around home and RESTED. Since then I feel like the fun has been nonstop—haha. Even if we are just at home, we are doing SOMETHING ((for the most part)).
One evening we took a drive looking for a creek so I could take some shots of E. We almost gave up but Elias insisted that we “find me some water.” so we did end up finding a spot and he enjoyed playing for a little bit. It was super cold water (duh), but he still loved the rocks, sticks, and sand (mud??).

A few months ago I realized that “hey, I should probably take my kid to the dentist.” ((SUPER MOM over here…haha)) Anyways, I went to the MOST reliable place for info EVER–FACEBOOK–(joking). But seriously I got a lot of recommendations, and the one I ended up settling on was Dr. Stu Bonnin so I made an appointment. Then rescheduled..because I am the QUEEN of procrastination. 🙂 So, Monday at 8 Elias had his first dentist appointment. I’m not even going to lie….I was basically terrified of how he would behave for two reasons. 1–He is a LEVEL 10 on the clingy meter. This is admittedly my fault, but I am really working on getting this to be better.  2–He’s a toddler. Simple as that. Their behavior is ridiculously unpredictable so I really didn’t know what to expect. Surprisingly we had an AMAZING experience. First and foremost Dr. Bonnin and his staff went above and beyond to make E feel comfortable and for him to have a good experience. I can’t say enough good things about him and his staff. Unfortunately (as I fully expected), Elias had two cavities. BOO!! So, we “get to” go back next month and have them filled. From what Dr. Bonnin and others have said this is a easy process and also shouldn’t be frightening. PRAYERS ANSWERED!!

We bought another (what we call disposable) pool to enjoy for the summer. Too bad it is rained ALMOST non stop for the past week or so. But we have had a few chances to get out and enjoy it. Elias especially loves his $1 whale from the Dollar Tree.

This morning we went with some friends to see a ((FREE)) movie at the Ridge in Pace and that was fun. Neither Elias or his friend Jack lasted the entire movie BUT it was totally worth the trip, popcorn, coke, and candy! 🙂

After E’s nap I figured I needed to come up with some creative ways to keep him entertained for the afternoon so I broke out the (yikes) Play-Doh and then let him destroy his playroom with a cookie tray full of ice. Fun was had by all. I highly recommend the cookie tray full of ice. It kept him entertained for a solid 25 minutes which is almost a record.

We have many more fun activities planned for the summer and I have set a goal to blog every day (hahaha–I’m serious this time!). We are loving sleeping in and I am still doing photo shoots so that keeps us from getting too bored and gives Elias the opportunity to go and stay with other people from time to time. He’s really needing that because he wants to be with me 24/7!!!

I’m off to cook hamburgers and wrangle Elias to eat some dinner!
